A non-governmental organisation called House-To-House Campaign Initiative for Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 has called on Rivers State Governor Rotimi Ameachi to stop insulting President Goodluck Jonathan.
This was contained in a statement signed by founder of the campaign organisation, Hon Ogidi Ben Bara in conjunction the South-South chapter, where they expressed displeasure over the attitude of the Rivers governor of insulting President Jonathan in public.
The statement reads; “It is no more acceptable to Founder, House to House Campaign Initiative for Goodluck Jonathan for 2015, Hon Ogidi Ben Bara and H2HCI, South-South chapter on the insult of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on President and Commander-In-Chief, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“We in House-to-House Campaign Initiative for Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 say Governor Amaechi must stop insulting the personality of President Jonathan, because it is undemocratic, uncivilised and immature for a sitting governor like Amaechi to point fingers at Mr. President as if they were age mates.
“We express our displeasure over the flippancy demonstrated by Amaechi, which is overheating the polity in Rivers State and causing political violence in the state. It is a motor-park approach to handling challenges before him.
“A boastful man like Amaechi cannot be relevant in the politics of Rivers State and the nation, because since Amaechi pitched tent of war he has lost respect among his people. He is only trying to make derogatory comments to spite Mr. President to score cheap political points.
“This will take him nowhere! He should be careful with his words and we want to tell Amaechi that he cannot cajole Rivers people and Nigerians over his self exaltation and authoritarian manner of doing things because surely he will be humbled someday.
“We want to unequivocally state here that Amaechi’s attitude is uncalled for and has got out of hand and must be stopped at this point because the person of President Jonathan deserves respect.”
Meanwhile, the statement condemned recent call made by Gen. Theophilus Danjuma on the arrest of ex-freedom fighters in the Niger Delta over statements made by Government Ekpudomenowei, aka, Tompolo, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and Chief Victor Ben Ebikabowei.
“It is imperative to state that the recent call made by Gen. Theophilus Danjuma to arrest Niger Delta leaders, High Chief Government Ekpudomenowei, aka, Tompolo, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Chief Victor Ben Ebikabowei, aka, Boy Loaf, and others is not good for the polity.
“We want to mention and let Gen. Danjuma know that they are instrumental to the direct and indirect survival and growth of the Nigerian economy and national development.
“With all sense of respect, we least expected him as an elder statesman and somebody who was in government to make such a call for their arrest, which could overheat the polity, especially now the country is preparing to hold a crucial election in two weeks time.
“Former Head of State and APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari made a public statement in 2011 that if the elections that year went the way of PDP the blood of baboons and dogs would flow.
“He said he would make the country ungovernable, and if Gen. Danjuma could recall, there was no arrest made to that effect, and even APC threatened to run a parallel government if they failed to be declared winners of the 2015 election and there was no call for their arrests.
“Nigerians should understand that peace in the nation’s political and economic life is as a result of the doggedness and commitment demonstrated by Tompolo, Dokubo, Boyloaf, and other freedom fighters who have resolved that peace must be restored and maintained in the Niger Delta and the nation at large.
“Since they took it upon themselves there has been calm in the oil rich Niger Delta, which has placed Nigeria as a leading oil and gas producing and exporting nation in Africa and the world. Over 2 million barrels of crude oil is being produced in the area.
“Also most of the agitating ex-militants in the area are now professionally trained in different areas of specialization within and outside the country under three years as these leaders of freedom fighters has been part of the value added on the life of these youth under the government of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The peace in the Niger Delta has transformed into massive development and economic growth, and that was why the APC could have a peaceful campaign in the region. And their commitment to peace brought about the establishment of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and Niger Delta Development Commission, including the amnesty programme.
“The late President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua recognised the strategic role played by these distinguished Niger Delta leaders to restore peace in the region and even wine and dine with them at the Presidential Villa, and he will not be happy to hear in his grave that somebody called for their arrest. Let them be, because they have not committed any crime by voicing their views,” the statement added.
